Not the best of all time, kind of religious almost and not very scary but the unique method used to commit the crime in this one still haunts me. Silence of the Lambs (you’ve probably seen it but it’s such a classic). Not but it is dark and I feel like it does atmosphere really well. While it could’ve been stronger, I was still satisfied. Jordan Peel’s US was interesting to me, even though I feel like they could’ve done more with it. I recommend getting really stoned if you’re into that. It’s by the same director as the Killing of a Sacred Deer and it’s one of my all time favorites. If you can tolerate the weird, I definitely recommend the Lobster. I say it again throughout, but for most of these I recommend going in not knowing much about their plot beyond a basic IMBD description. I LOVED Midsommar and Hereditary (except the ending), among others you listed, and I haven’t heard many people talking about the Outsider (great premise but disappointing) and Burning. I agree with your take on all of these shows & movies except maybe the Babadook (I just find it annoying and a bit boring as opposed to scary/artistic), the Witch (it just didn’t grab me at all) and Annihilation (it just could’ve been so much more). We have really similar taste, this got me excited. Not really horror but one of the densest atmospheres I have seen.
#MOVIES LIKE CALIBRE NETFLIX REDDIT SERIES#
It may even not be restricted to horror, there are also movies like The Vanishing (the Dutch Original), The Seventh Continent or The Killing of a Sacred Deer that come to mind.Īs for Series - I really enjoyed The Outsider (except the very disappointing ending) for exampleĪn I am veeeeery much looking forward to Alex Garland's MEN.ĮDIT: I forgot a very important one - Burning by Lee Chang Dong. I wouldn't go so far as to call them "the A24-Style Horror Movies", but maybe it's true a little bit. Also they usually have a very good eerie soundtrack.

As I said, I really like horror movies that have this incredible tense atmosphere where the dread and fear just lies in the air rather than slashers or movies with a lot of jump scares.
